[110728][news] 2ne1 makes their 5th all kill this year with ugly

Girl group 2NE1 has seized the charts for the 5th time in a row, and are once again making history in the K-POP world.

On the 28th at midnight, 2NE1 released their new song, Ugly, and claimed first place on several online music real time charts, including Melon, Bugs, Soribada, Dosirak, and MNET, today around noon. In this year alone, they have a record of reaching the top of the charts five times.

Previously, 2NE1 had topped the charts with the release of all of their new songs, Don't Cry, Lonely, I am the Best, and Hate You. Now with Ugly, they have had scored a record of five all-kills in one year alone.

Ugly has lyrics that speak about one's own ugly appearance, and the pain that they receive when people stare at them because of that. The lyrics are accompanied with a contrasting rock sound, transforming the song and giving the listener a peculiar feeling. It's a song that has a charismatic powerful rock sound that matches an electronic beat.

The concept for 2NE1's new song this time is unique in itself. It takes into account the meaning of title, ugly, and unattractive, and the four members shout out "I am not pretty". While girl groups these days use their pretty, stylish outer appearances as their weapons for their activities, the topic that 2NE1 chooses is 'honesty'.

Responsible for 2NE1's past hit songs, YG's representative producer, Teddy, also took part in the production this time as well. There is a rock sound that infiltrates the entire song, along with an electronic genre which shows off 2NE1's musical style, giving the song a mix of two different colours. One of the interesting points about Ugly is that there is no rap part.

In addition, in the rapidly changing online world of music, the fact that this gives them a record of their fifth 'All Kill' in a row makes it special. Last year, 2NE1 was able to show off 3 songs as title songs, embarking in a very powerful promotion style. Previously, they would reveal the other songs on the album one by one. 2NE1 has grown to be the only girl group who has never lost their typical identity.

2NE1’s “I Am the Best” has dominated major online music download sites, while the song’s music video full of intense, experimental images has also attracted much attention. Following 2NE1’s earlier hit songs “Don’t Cry” and “Lonely,” it hit another huge homerun blow after blow.

As a girl group well suggestive of the unique characteristic of YG Entertainment, one of the most giant agencies in Korea, 2NE1 has kept its distinctive allure from other girl groups since its debut. The agency’s experimental decisions went as far as to encourage Sandara Park, known for its adorable appearance, to have the hairstyle of Vegeta, a funny character in the famous comic book Dragon Ball. 2NE1 has never lost their identity, continuing to try a wide variety of unexpected fashion styles and performance strategies for their music activities.
