Girl group 2NE1 has seized the charts for the 5th time in a row, and are once again making history in the K-POP world.
On the 28th at midnight, 2NE1 released their new song, Ugly, and claimed first place on several online music real time charts, including Melon, Bugs, Soribada, Dosirak, and MNET, today around noon. In this year alone, they have a record of reaching the top of the charts five times.
Previously, 2NE1 had topped the charts with the release of all of their new songs, Don't Cry, Lonely, I am the Best, and Hate You. Now with Ugly, they have had scored a record of five all-kills in one year alone.
Ugly has lyrics that speak about one's own ugly appearance, and the pain that they receive when people stare at them because of that. The lyrics are accompanied with a contrasting rock sound, transforming the song and giving the listener a peculiar feeling. It's a song that has a charismatic powerful rock sound that matches an electronic beat.
The concept for 2NE1's new song this time is unique in itself. It takes into account the meaning of title, ugly, and unattractive, and the four members shout out "I am not pretty". While girl groups these days use their pretty, stylish outer appearances as their weapons for their activities, the topic that 2NE1 chooses is 'honesty'.
Responsible for 2NE1's past hit songs, YG's representative producer, Teddy, also took part in the production this time as well.
